WTF is a branding "mood board" anyway?!
Often, to many business owners, creating the "brand board" seems like an unnecessary step and just a big waste of time when there is sooo much to be done when creating or "re-doing" an existing brand! We get it! Starting a business can often be rough, time consuming and draining ( yet completely rewarding :-) ... but a brand or mood board is extremely helpful if you want to create a brand that is visually appealing with a cohesive style. Having one created, prior to having any design work done, will help you stay on track and save you lots of time and energy further down the road!
A branding mood board should be one of the first steps when creating or redesigning a brand! It is a visualization tool that is key to planning out the overall "vibe" of a company. Think of it as the foundation for all of the design your brand will require in the future - websites, business cards, interior of an office or retail location, and more. The "mood board" is a visual way to conceptualize your brand and it's overall feel & style. This board will help you to decide if the direction you are going in will relate to your ideal client and represent you in the way that you feel is best. So, what exactly is it? It typically includes text, images, colors, textures & patterns. This collage of visuals will help pull together an overall plan from which your brand elements will be chosen from, or at least, inspired by... such as brand colors, fonts, inspiration for logo designs and more.
The creation of a mood board is an intuitive part of the branding process, however, very important. It is your "road map" to getting to where you'd like to go. Can you imagine just jumping in to the design process with no plan at all? This board will help your brand to stay cohesive, in the long run as you can always refer back to it when planning for any new, visual project.
Mood boards are part of the branding process here at Brand Vamp and are included with every branding strategy session!!
